BKFPD Accepting Cadet Program Applications

The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District is now accepting applications for its 2026 Cadet Program, offering young adults a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in the fire service while preparing for a future career in emergency services.

The Cadet Program is designed to develop responsible, skilled, and community-minded individuals through structured training, education, and mentorship. Cadets will participate in classroom learning, hands-on practical training, and ride time alongside district personnel, all while building leadership skills and a strong foundation in public safety.

Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years old at the time of hire, possess a valid Illinois driver’s license, be a U.S. citizen, and reside within 75 miles of the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District. Candidates must also successfully complete an oral interview, background check, and district-provided physical examination

The program runs from June 1 through October 30, 2026, and includes weekly educational assignments and quizzes through the District’s Learning Management System, mandatory hands-on training sessions held on Fridays, monthly ride time requirements, and completion of required OSFM BOF and Hazardous Materials Operations exams.
