Part Time Firefighters

Firefighters are employed on a part time basis and are limited to the amount of hours they can work in a 28 day work cycle. The district currently offers two work schedules to help keep companies working with the same personnel.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Applicant must be 18 years old
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED
  • Equivalency Diploma
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic Operation Firefighter Certification
  • Emergency Medical Technician- Basic
  • Work a minimum of 96 hours a month
  • Passing of a medical and physical evaluation provided by the fire district

Cadet Program

The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District is now accepting applications for its 2026 Cadet Program, offering young adults a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in the fire service while preparing for a future career in emergency services.

The Cadet Program is designed to develop responsible, skilled, and community-minded individuals through structured training, education, and mentorship. Cadets will participate in classroom learning, hands-on practical training, and ride time alongside district personnel, all while building leadership skills and a strong foundation in public safety.

Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years old at the time of hire, possess a valid Illinois driver’s license, be a U.S. citizen, and reside within 75 miles of the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District. Candidates must also successfully complete an oral interview, background check, and district-provided physical examination

The program runs from June 1 through October 30, 2026, and includes weekly educational assignments and quizzes through the District’s Learning Management System, mandatory hands-on training sessions held on Fridays, monthly ride time requirements, and completion of required OSFM BOF and Hazardous Materials Operations exams. All required safety gear and uniforms are provided by the District

Emergency Vehicle Technician

The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District will be hiring an Emergency Vehicle Technician Level III. The position will work 40 hours a week with the possibility of some emergency call outs. The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District staffs three stations with diesel generators and a fleet of 19 vehicles, UTV, and two boats.

The Emergency Vehicle Technician position requires excellent interpersonal relationship skills, effective communication skills, ability to work independent, and the ability to work well with teams and supervisors. The ideal candidate will have a highly productive work ethic and be extremely organized.
