We’re Hiring an Emergency Vehicle Technician

The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District is seeking a qualified Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Level III to join our team. This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, with the potential for emergency call-outs as needed.

The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District operates three stations, equipped with diesel generators, and maintains a fleet of 19 vehicles, a UTV, and two boats. We are looking for a motivated individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, who can work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on fire apparatus, emergency vehicles, and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving engines, transmissions, brakes, and drivetrains.
  • Maintain and repair auxiliary systems like pumps, generators, and specialized firefighting equipment.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Document all maintenance and inspection activities.
  • Assist in preparing vehicles for annual pump and ladder testing, and other certifications.
  • Respond to emergency repair requests during incidents as needed.
  • Provide operational guidance and training to fire district staff on vehicle and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance, preferably with fire apparatus or heavy equipment.
  • Vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license with the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Must provide own basic hand tools.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various conditions.

Preferred Certifications:

  • ASE certifications in relevant areas (e.g., brakes, diesel engine).
  • EVT Master Level III certification or willingness to obtain within a designated timeframe.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $70,000 – $80,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
