The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District is seeking a qualified Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Level III to join our team. This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, with the potential for emergency call-outs as needed.
The Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District operates three stations, equipped with diesel generators, and maintains a fleet of 19 vehicles, a UTV, and two boats. We are looking for a motivated individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, who can work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on fire apparatus, emergency vehicles, and equipment.
 - Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
 - Troubleshoot issues involving engines, transmissions, brakes, and drivetrains.
 - Maintain and repair auxiliary systems like pumps, generators, and specialized firefighting equipment.
 - Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
 - Document all maintenance and inspection activities.
 - Assist in preparing vehicles for annual pump and ladder testing, and other certifications.
 - Respond to emergency repair requests during incidents as needed.
 - Provide operational guidance and training to fire district staff on vehicle and equipment maintenance.
 
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
 - Minimum of 3 years of experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance, preferably with fire apparatus or heavy equipment.
 - Vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics.
 - Valid Illinois driver’s license with the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
 - Must provide own basic hand tools.
 - Proficiency in diagnostic tools and software.
 - Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
 - Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
 - Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various conditions.
 
Preferred Certifications:
- ASE certifications in relevant areas (e.g., brakes, diesel engine).
 - EVT Master Level III certification or willingness to obtain within a designated timeframe.
 
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary Range: $70,000 – $80,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
